This workshop is held by a professional Kyogen actor.
Kyogen is a traditional comedy which mainly describes the daily life of ordinary people. It was developed as a comic interlude played during Noh, a traditional Japanese theater which is one of the world’s oldest performing arts. The purpose of Kyogen is to relieve the tension of the serious Noh drama. Unlike Noh, most of the plays are performed without masks.
The dual art of Noh and Kyogen is referred to as Nohgaku and has been designated an Intangible Cultural Heritage by UNESCO.
During this experience the Kyogen actor will talk about Kyogen and teach the actual stage movement and acting. You will be able to take pictures with the actors.
If two actors or more are reserved it will be possible to enjoy a Kyogen theater performance.
